Decorating For The Winter Season Instead Of The Holidays

Posted on

All of the work that goes into decorating the home for the holidays can be extended into the weeks of winter that follow Christmas. Using decorations that are not holiday based, but are seasonably based will make your home look beautiful throughout the winter season without making it look like  you were simply too lazy to take down your decorations after Christmas. Here, you will get a few seasonal decorating ideas for your home to enjoy.

Pine Cone Garland

A pine cone garland is less Christmas-like and more seasonal than a traditional pine garland. You can make your own pine cone garland to string across your fence, deck or over your entry way. You will need:

  • Several large pine cones
  • Twine
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Take the pine cones and connect them to each other using the twine. Wrap the twine around the stems or in the cracks of the pine cones.

Lay the garland on the ground as you work so that you can see how the pine cones are setting with each other. If you find some spaces where the pine cones are not positioned quite right, use a small amount of hot glue to attach one to another until you get the perfect look.

String the garland in place by using more twine to attach it to the fence, railing or entry way.

Tip: If you want to bring a little more Christmas to the look, hang some red bows on the garland after you have it hung in place.

Lighted Fences

Lighting your fence can really look exquisite during the winter. The freshly fallen snow illuminated by the lighting that borders your yard creates a twinkling effect that is soothing and enjoyable to your family and everyone that passes by.

There are many options of installing lighting on your fencing. It can be hung at the top, cascaded from top to bottom, or laid at the bottom. One method of fence lighting that is not typically seen is the lighting of the base of the fence.

Lighting the base of the fence can create an up-lighting effect that is traditional in a not so traditional way. Simply lay the light strands on the ground at the base of the fence. This can be accompanied by branches sticking vertically out of the ground to create a burning bush appearance from the road.

Decorating your home can be time consuming, but it can also be quite easy. Use your creativity and get more information by talking with fence contractors to learn of new decorating techniques that can remain up for the entire winter season.
